Blog Post #10
I haven't finished assignment 5 yet, but I've already learned a lot about the different things that PowerPoint can do. One thing that I think is really cool is the option to disable linear navigation. It was hard to figure out, but once I got it disabled, the PowerPoint started working exactly how I envisioned it. I also think having the different buttons leading to different slides is just such a cool way to use PowerPoint, because I've only ever used it in slide form for a presentation. I have really enjoyed this assignment, but I think it would have been helpful to have step-by-step instructions on how to disable linear navigation, because I couldn't find it anywhere online and nothing would come up in my search on PowerPoint because it's not under the term "linear navigation." Other than this, I think it's a very fun assignment. To the left is a screenshot of the home page of my assignment.
I also think the Qualtrics Survey is a very cool and useful tool. If I do teach, it would be kindergarten, so I don't see how this might be helpful in the classroom. I could possibly use it for parent surveys. I could ask questions like "Do you feel connected with your students' learning?" "Is there anything you would like me to communicate better?" etc. With my current survey, I have experienced spam answers of "67," but I saw that they came from the same IP address, so I just deleted the answers, and I'm not worried about it too much. While I can't really avoid these, I think parents would be much more mature about these answers, so it's not really something I would need to worry about or take into consideration.
A technology skill that I would like to learn next is how to find and manage apps that will help younger students in kindergarten to second grade. A SMART goal for this would be to find one learning app per month until I have at least five go-to apps and understand how to use them, who they are geared towards, and whether or not they would help me in the future. This goal is specific, measurable (1 per month), attainable, relevant (whether or not they will help me), and time-bound (at least 5 go-to apps). It would also help prepare me for teaching younger students because I would already have some resources that I would be able to use in the classroom.
