I've really enjoyed writing blog posts so far. I have two classes that I write weekly blogs for: this one and my Writing and Editing in Print and Online (WEPO). In my WEPO class, we do have more freedom with the writing, so while we do have to stay relatively on topic about what we learned or did in class that week, there's more creative liberty for how you write it. I do like having the questions as a guide for what I should be writing about, but at the same time, I feel like I end up focusing on whether or not I answer the questions fully rather than truly reflecting on the class. I've learned that the topic of the blog heavily impacts the strength of writing--if I don't enjoy a topic, I tend to write much more blandly than I usually do. Moving on, I think AI can be a useful tool in some education settings. Personally, I don't think it should be used in elementary classes, especially at younger ages (like kindergarten). While I made both a Pinterest and an Instagram account, I've been looking at Instagram more. I feel it has better material for me to look through and take advice from. There are many teachers who post strategies that they use in their classrooms, showing what works best with different students. Since kids now are growing up differently from the way I did, it's cool to see what works best for students, especially in the age bracket I'd be interested in teaching. These platforms can be very helpful in the future in the same way I'm using them now; the only difference is that I don't have a classroom to utilize the strategies in yet. Copyright and fair use are very important topics to learn about because they ensure you're not taking legal risks when using someone else's work. Fair use allows more freedom with using certain works depending on their use. Copyright has different licenses that allow for different usage : O ne might allow you to share a work with no alterations, one might allow you to change things with proper credit, and one might not allow you to use it at all. As a teacher, it's important to be careful about what licenses the material you use have to avoid any legal issues. This might mean that it's just easier to make your own material than to borrow from someone else. I've had a lot of experience using MS Word as a student. My K-12 school provided all Microsoft apps with my school email, just like FSU does. This meant that I had access to these tools at such a young age. I was also in a computer class in sixth grade, so I learnt the basics of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I will say that when it comes to doing homework assignments, I prefer using MS Word. It's easier to submit to a file dropbox, and it ensures that my work isn't being changed after I submit it. On the other hand, when I'm taking notes or doing virtually anything else, I prefer using Google Docs. This is because it's saved to my Google Drive, so I can access it much more easily on any device than I can with Microsoft apps. In this class, I hope to learn the best ways to utilize technology and social media platforms in an educational setting. Oftentimes, social media can be viewed as something bad and distracting, especially for students, but I believe that there are some ways that it can be used for good. I've always had a dream of being a kindergarten teacher, and in this day and age, it would be very helpful to understand the best methods of incorporating media into the classroom. While I've shifted my career path towards editing/publishing texts (at least for now), I still feel that this class will give me knowledge I can carry into many different fields.
