In this class, I hope to learn the best ways to utilize technology and social media platforms in an educational setting. Oftentimes, social media can be viewed as something bad and distracting, especially for students, but I believe that there are some ways that it can be used for good. I've always had a dream of being a kindergarten teacher, and in this day and age, it would be very helpful to understand the best methods of incorporating media into the classroom. While I've shifted my career path towards editing/publishing texts (at least for now), I still feel that this class will give me knowledge I can carry into many different fields.
As for using technology in an educational setting, I don't have much experience. There have been many rules set in Florida so that students aren't allowed to keep their phones while in the classroom. However, in the first week that I've been at FSU, I've noticed than many classes chose to use group discussion platforms, and many students take notes in class on a laptop or iPad. So far, I have found that this technology has made my learning experience much easier than it was in high school.
Other than technology, my learning has taken a new form in college just through new tools and techniques. I like learning a lot about different novels, especially classic stories, and also how to write my own pieces. My PLN definitely includes the instructors of my English-based courses because they will be able to guide me a lot while completing my major. This isn't subject only to English classes, though--all of my professors in every class (along with TA's) will be able to help me when I'm not understanding material. I also rely a lot on my family and friends to help when I am stressed or need advice. As for what resources have become a part of my PLN, I will definitely say Canvas is a big part of completing coursework, Google Docs is my main source of note taking, and my calendar has become my best friend. These are all people and tools that have proven to be important aspects of my PLN that I will likely carry throughout the semester.
Hi Sunny! I have also noticed that the use of technology within FSU is broader than the use of technology in my high school. This observation has motivated me to become more efficient with my use of technology, and I hope to understand more about the tools that will be able to help me thrive in my future.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that technology is a good thing. It is a tool, that when used correctly, can help in so many different ways. Everything has become so digital these days, even simple things like taking notes in class. Understanding how to use it and then transferring those skills into our everyday lives is so vital.
